Affiliate marketing is a great way to make money with an online business.  However, if you are not first successful at internet marketing you will never get the targeted traffic you need to your website.

Methods to getting targeted traffic are legion.  One popular method is article marketing …meaning – you write about the products or services that you are selling.  Article marketing is a great way to market but what if you suck at writing?  What if you are better at dealing with people more directly?

If that is the case, you might want to look at marketing via social networking websites.  The best place to start in my opinion is Facebook.  Facebook has more than 400 million active users …50% of their active users log on to Facebook in any given day!

With this amount of people, you have to consider that this is truly an internet marketers dream.

By joining Facebook, you will be able to create a profile page for yourself. Complete the profile page. In this page, it will state basically everything about you. It will contain your interests, your age, gender, as well as your political views.

The cool thing about joining Facebook is that you can add your friends that are already on Facebook and invite others who are not.  By building your network this way you now have access to the friends of your friends.  Now you can establish relationships and communicate with thousands of people.

Now, although Facebook Marketing is a great way to market …don’t be a bonehead and start pushing your products or your website on people.  Do a few “social” posts first like asking open ended questions, posting jokes, or start conversations about  current events.  It is a good idea to make comments on people’s Facebook Wall to join their discussions to get yourself “out there”.

Now that you have established yourself on Facebook, you can start looking for groups that are interested in the products that you are marketing and join them.

Once a part of the group, join the discussion and market your products indirectly in the discussion flow.  Be a regular contributor to the group to establish yourself as someone in the know about the subject at hand.

Utilizing the Notes application in Facebook is a great way to market your products and services.  Having said that, a simple status update with a link to your site generates quite a good bit of traffic too!
